Summary: She missed the man- the boy, really- that she had fallen in love with. After the ceremony, it was like he had run off and she had married a complete stranger. The past no one heard about... until now. What really happened to Zuko's mother, and why would she marry a man like Ozai? OzaixUrsa, OzaixOC, foreshadowing of Zutara, implied MaixZuko with Zuko not reciprocating Mai's feelings.
Excerpt of Chapter One: “I was the normal, soft, natural kind of pretty- at least that's what I've been told. However, Li-Tai was the dramatic, sexy, seductive type of pretty that matched her dramatic, striking, outgoing personality and upfront, honest nature.[...] We could never compare ourselves to the other- we were just too different.[...] Needless to say, some people were surprised when Li-Tai and I became inseparable, best friends.[...]”
Author's Note: This is the first chapter of my little ficlet, Fire Lilies. It was inspired because this little plot bunny asked me, “Why would someone as kind as Ursa marry such a monster like Ozai?” You'll find the plot summary in the introduction, because the summary above the lj-cut doesn't hint to very much.
